Together with Canberra Metro Operations, Transport Canberra officially launched the Canberra Metro Stage 1 Light Rail service on Saturday 20 April. Despite the Easter weekend and ANZAC break drawing many Canberrans away from the capital, approximately 29,000 people took a ride on launch day, with a total of 228 light rail vehicle journeys made by the end of the night.

Approximately 170 volunteers from Transport Canberra, Canberra Metro Operations, CPB, John Holland and the general community helped make the day a real success. The launch day was also an excellent demonstration of the great partnership between Transport Canberra and Canberra Metro.
