Stage 1

When Stage 1 of Canberra's Light Rail launched on 20 April 2019, it marked the beginning of a new era for the city's transport network, and the results have exceeded all expectations. The 12-kilometre route connecting Gungahlin to the City centre now carries over 90,000 passenger boardings each week, significantly surpassing original forecasts and demonstrating strong community demand for reliable, high-frequency rail.

Light Rail Procurement, Retrofit and Depot Expansion (LPRDE)

Canberra Metro is delivering a Light Rail Procurement, Retrofit and Depot Expansion (LPRDE) modification to procure five new Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) and retrofit fourteen existing LRVs with the On-board Energy Storage System (OESS) for wire free running.

Stage 2A

Canberra Metro is proud to be delivering Stage 2A of Canberra’s Light Rail, extending the network from Alinga Street to Commonwealth Park along London Circuit West. This 1.7-kilometre extension will include new stops at Edinburgh Avenue, City South, and Commonwealth Park, improving access to the ANU, nearby homes, and businesses in City West and New Acton.
