During National Reconciliation Week 2026, the Canberra Metro consortium came together to reflect, learn, and strengthen our shared commitment to reconciliation.
Teams from Canberra Metro, Canberra Metro Construction (CMC), and Canberra Metro Operations (CMET) gathered on Ngunnawal Country in our city construction office for a meaningful and engaging session. We were privileged to host Uncle Billy T and Tiana House from Brindabella Dreaming, who led a powerful cultural sharing experience for our people.
A highlight of the morning was the vibrant cultural music and dance performance, delivered by young members of the Brindabella Dreaming group. Their confidence and pride in sharing culture were both inspiring and impactful, creating a genuine connection across the room and offering valuable insight into traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Through the yarning circle and open conversation, our teams were given the opportunity to listen, ask questions, and reflect on lived experiences. The session created a respectful and open space to deepen understanding and consider what reconciliation looks like in practice. It reinforced that reconciliation is not a single event or gesture, but an ongoing commitment built on respect, relationships, and continuous learning.
The event concluded with a collective commitment activity, where participants contributed handprints to a shared canvas. This now serves as a visible reminder across our organisations of the role we each play in supporting reconciliation.
By coming together as a consortium, we continue to strengthen our connection to the Country on which we live and work, and to each other, ensuring reconciliation remains an active and meaningful part of our daily lives.
